Multi-scale Predictive System of the Degradation of the Urban Front in Brno, Czech Republic

An implementation case

Selected sample on Veveří street and Jirákova street, Brno, Czech Republic

Given the frequent premature deterioration of the built urban front in the cities, added its constant growth, which increasingly generates greater environmental impact, it is necessary to develop systematized methods that facilitate the management, the strategic maintenance of the facades and the study of the variables that potentially intervene in the appearance of the damages; this, with the objective of providing an analytical medium for the decision making of conservation and sustainability of the built urban front with a macro-scale approach. In the BRAIN environment (Building Research Analysis and Information Network), a Multi-scale Predictive System of Degradation of the Urban Front has been developed, which, by means of periodic inspections, allows the analysis of the progression of the damages and a prediction of the future affectation with base in statistical estimation models. Taking as reference the methodology developed in this system, the Urban Laboratory of the city of Brno is implemented in the Czech Republic, whose results are presented in this article. The investigation has been selected to be part of the conference programin People, Buildings and Environment 2018 and has been published on IOP SCIENCE in the IOP Conferences Series: Earth and Environmental Science, Volume 222, Number 1.

Abstract

The unavoidable deterioration of the built urban front in the cities has been increasingly generating a huge environmental impact. From this perspective, it is necessary to develop systematized methods that facilitate strategic maintenance of the facades and which study the variables that can potentially play a significant role in the damage occurrence. Therefore it is convenient to implement analytical methodologies to the decision making process on conservation and sustainability of the built urban front with a macro-scale approach. The BRAIN platform (Building Research Analysis and Information Network) is a Multi-scale Predictive System of the Degradation of the Urban Front. By means of periodic inspections, BRAIN allows analyses of damage progression and prediction of the future affectation, based on survival/reliability statistical models. The aim of this paper is to introduce a preliminary study on the implementation of the Urban Laboratory in the city of Brno, Czech Republic. Results of this primary approach have been displayed and discussed. continue reading...
